A biblical and historical defense of sola scriptura in the disputed questions format used by Aquinas in his Summa Theologica. The document is broken down into three sections. First, a formulation and biblical defense of sola scriptura; second, an examination of various early church fathers that believe in sola scriptura (including Irenaeus of Lyons, Cyprian of Carthage, and Augustine of Hippo); and third, and exploration of the consequences of sola scriptura in relation to doctrine and doctrinal development.

Ecumenical dialogue between the major Christian denominations (Protestant, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, etc.) has been going on for centuries, resulting in discussions that are often quite difficult to follow. As one of my larger projects, I’m researching these issues and attempting to distill the results in accessible documents to help interested readers find an introduction to the relevant topics.
